About Me!
I was born in London on 18th September 1963 into a family that was really, really sad. My Dad was a very angry man. He used to shout and get violent. He'd break stuff and do mean things and my lovely mum, my brother, my sister and me used to sit and tremble with fear. I quickly learnt to be as quiet as a mouse. I even learnt to cry without making a sound. When I was 10 years old he left us and we all sighed a huge sigh of relief. And although life became more peaceful it took us years to get over the shock of living with him.
As soon as I could hold a pen I started writing pages and pages of scribble. Then I moved onto writing words that people could read and started writing about everything going on around me. I wrote down all my feelings about life and the world.
My favourite teacher at primary school was Mr Brittain and I wished so much he was my dad. When I was 4 I was in love with a boy called Simon. We promised when we grew up we'd have 4 children and a pink Lamborghini car. My favourite subjects at school were english, drama and music (I played the Trumpet) and my worst was maths. I hated it so much I used to sit at the back of the class and write poems. I drove my teacher to despair!
When I was 15 I joined an amazing drama club called Youth Action Theatre, where I made lifelong friends and had loads of fun.
I got married when I was 22 to a man called Paul. When I was 24 I had my my daughter Jane, who was quickly followed by my son Tim. Our marriage didn't work out, but we're still best friends, so when I was 33 I packed a car with a mattress, 3 bicycles, a bag of clothes and a copy of Pippi Longstocking and moved with Jane and Tim from London to Somerset. After only a few months their dad followed us and bought a house really close by so we all still see each other loads and love each other a lot.
When I was 34 I met Daniel, who I'm now married to, and I have 3 lovely step-sons called Sam, Joe and Ben.
I now live in a tiny Somerset village with Daniel and our huge Newfoundland dog, Ellie (all our kids have grown up and left home). When I sit at my desk to write I look out over green fields with gorgeous Shetland ponies in them.
In my life I've worked as a nanny, a waitress, a dresser for west end theatre and the BBC (where I worked on Eastenders, Breakfast TV and Grange Hill), a mum, a homeopath & allergy therapist and now as an author. It's really important to remember though, that what we do for work isn't who we really are. In fact it doesn't mean much about us at all. Who we really are is much, much more exciting... because who we really are is love appearing as life and that's an awesome thing to be.
I'm really happy now and I feel utterly blessed. I have a gorgeous family and a wonderful life and I'm very glad that the sad and scary days are over!!!
